Avencia asks: Carrie Fildes

In the second of our series of blogs designed to let you get to know us a little better, we sat down with our Systems Consultant, Carrie Fildes.

Carrie, how long have you been working in the world of business support?

Over 12 years! I started at Christchurch City Council in New Zealand, followed by two major energy resourcing companies in Australia. I then made the leap back to the UK to enter the world of RPO and MSP!

So, what was the main thing that attracted you to Avencia?

Honestly, it was meeting with Chris Buckingham (founding director). It quickly became apparent that this is a business with an incredibly clear vision and strategy. Avencia is a proactive company with ideal circumstances to deliver on their commitments and grow at a rapid rate. This, combined with the fact that they also provide consultancy services really set them apart from others in the market. This is something which I very much wanted to be part of.

So in those early months, what did it feel like to join a start-up?

Exciting! This is the second time in a row I've worked for a start-up business. I find it leads to vast exposure, condensed learning and great career opportunities. Now, whilst the work can be intense and challenging the rewards are far, far greater!

Moving onto your role, as Avencia’s systems consultant can you describe your role in a little more detail?

My role is extremely varied, but in a nutshell, I examine our client’s existing operational processes and develop solutions that streamline them. Whether this is from a technological or operational perspective I then work with our team to implement and deliver them. But the work doesn't stop there – I then ensure that the processes are fully adopted, regularly reviewed and then improved upon! Finally, we asses performance through a stream of comprehensive management information and business intelligence reporting.

If you could describe the part you play in the recruitment process in a sentence, what would it be?

Scoping, designing and delivering technology solutions to match client requirements whilst implementing and streamlining operational processes to ensure a best in class service.

So, it’s clear that business support are the wheels that make the operation function as successfully as it does! What does a typical day in the life of Avencia business support look like?

A cliché I know, but there's no such thing! What I can say is without the expertise and support of Marketing, Legal, Compliance and Onboarding, Payroll, Finance and IT (especially our systems support advisors and in-house development team), we wouldn't be where we are today, nor would we have such a bright future. Our teams are always so accommodating, even when the occasional curve-ball comes their way!

Finally, what’s the best thing about working at Avencia?

It’s definitely the culture. Avencia has worked so hard to recruit the best people in all areas; whether it’s client services, delivery or business support - this has resulted in a solid and tight team. We're all there for one another and we have a pro-active and can-do approach which we are all rewarded and appreciated for.
