Avencia asks: Elizabeth Charlesworth

Introducing the third blog in the Avencia Asks series with Resource Manager Elizabeth Charlesworth, designed so you can get to know us a little better.

Elizabeth, how long have you been working at Avencia?

I have been working at Avencia for 2 years and was one of our first employees. I have previous experience of working in recruitment and my focus here at Avencia was to build out the resourcing function into a team with a wide variety of experience.

What attracted you about Avencia?

I had heard about Avencia through my network and really liked the business model of being insurance specific with a specialist quality led approach to resourcing. I liked that they focused on specialised consultants delivering bespoke services for their clients; simple solutions with that level of speciality and quality which really made them stand out.

As soon as I met Chris and Charlie, I liked them. They have a very open-door approach and are always keen to hear new ideas and so I felt Avencia was somewhere I could really broaden my skill set, focus more on building relationships with clients, while also being able to get more involved in the diversity and inclusion piece.

Can you describe your role in a little more detail?

As the Resource Manager here at Avencia I am responsible for managing the resourcing team to ensure we deliver excellence throughout the recruitment lifecycle; briefs, shortlisting, offers in both contract and permanent hiring, while also supporting hiring managers throughout the process.

I offer guidance and support to my team through communicating my experience and working with our learning and development team to help them develop and upskill wherever possible, to ensure we continue to deliver a high-quality service to our clients.

How does Avenica’s Resourcing function support their clients?

Our resourcing team partners with businesses to become an extension of their HR function, delivering high quality resourcing across all areas of the business, from admin support, to specialist senior positions, up to C-Suite. Being embedded into the business, we understand how to sell the organisation and we are recruiting exclusively for them.

Under the guidance of our onsite business partners we aim to be as integrated with our hiring mangers as possible, to enable us to tailor our approach to their needs and partner with them throughout the process. Our specialist resourcing team provide detailed screening of all candidates, offering hiring mangers condensed shortlists aligned to their roles.

We aim to deliver high quality, with a reduced time to hire, while also looking to provide as many value add services as possible; including market mapping, detailed progress reports, interview support and developing candidate pools for future hires.

What does a typical week look like for you?

Setting up conference calls, arranging interviews and holding one-to-ones with the team. I spend a lot of my time speaking to all our onsite team to talk through vacancies, plans for the week and to set objectives and targets so we can deliver best practice to our clients.

If you could describe the part you play in the recruitment process in a sentence, what would it be?

Delivering the standards and expectations we have set with our clients, while personally delivering senior hires.

Everything we do at Avencia revolves around making sure we deliver a high-quality service, with a personal touch.

What’s the best thing about working at Avencia?

The main thing for me is the wide diversity of people that make up Avencia; we all have previous experience of working within the recruitment industry, but in different areas. Charlie and Chris like to hold quarterly meetings to brainstorm ideas and talk through plans for the future and it’s a really great opportunity to get everyone together and hear people’s suggestions and ideas – which are always new and exciting and allows us to continue to improve our services.
